Flashback: It’s June 9, 1969, and we (589 about-to-be-graduates of B-CC) are lined up in a hallway by last name, in alphabetical order, wearing our gold and blue caps and gowns, ready to march into the gymnasium for graduation exercises. Most of us are giddy, not about graduation, but about heading down to Ocean City for a few days of irrational exuberance at the Stowaway or at some other beachfront hotel, followed by more fun on the boardwalk, the sand, and in the surf. We’re also melancholy at the thought of losing friends, going to college, moving to new places, and experiencing drastic changes in our lives. But someone makes a joke about one of us, or about a teacher, or the graduation ceremony. We all laugh, and the mood shifts to “mostly giddy.”
The graduation exercises proceed, and soon we receive our diplomas, flip the tassel on our mortarboard caps, and are officially graduated.
Fifty years later, it’s time to remember the good and bad times at B-CC, and to reflect on how we have lived and what we accomplished since we graduated.
To celebrate this momentous occasion, the 50th Reunion Committee has arranged a wonderful weekend of activities on Friday, October 11th and Saturday, October 12th, 2019.
We have selected the Bethesda Hyatt Regency Hotel at Wisconsin Avenue, East-West Highway, and Old Georgetown Road as the official B-CC Class of 1969 50th Reunion Center. It sits atop the Bethesda Metro Station, and it’s also located just 4 blocks from B-CC. For those of you coming in from out of town, the Hyatt is holding 25 rooms for us, at extremely reduced rates.
Here’s the schedule for our Reunion Weekend:
Our Sponsors are businesses, organizations and individuals who may or may not be attending the B-CC Class of 1969 50th Reunion, but who wish to contribute additional in-kind or monetary resources for the success of our event. The B-CC Class of 1969 thanks all our Sponsors for their generous support!
All financial contributions are used to defray additional costs of the Reunion. Our goal is to raise $2,500. If any monies are leftover after payment of Reunion expenses, they will be donated to the B-CC Education Foundation.
